AirCrew Memorial Statue

The AirCrew Memorial Association is a unit of the Western Nova Scotia Branch of the Aircrew Association.  We were incorporated under The Societies Act of Nova Scotia and, as such, has been granted status as a registered charity by Canada Customs and Revenue Agency.  Our mission is to erect a Memorial statue to honour the memory of Canadians who have served their country as Aircrew of the Armed Services of Canada and it’s Allies.  Over 25,000 Aircrew went overseas during WWII and approximately 17,000 of those gave their lives in the cause of freedom.  We have initiated the casting of a six foot life size bronze statue of a generic WWII Aircrew member.  Mr. Peter Bustin, who sculpted the Sailor monument located next to Summit Place in Halifax, Nova Scotia, has been chosen as our sculptor.  The accompanying photograph is of the miniature created by Mr. Bustin.

The statue will be erected at the new Military Aviation Museum at CFB Greenwood Nova Scotia.  Our statue will be the centrepiece of that museum which will house many military artifacts as well as an Anson aircraft.  The Anson will be reconstructed in a portion of the Museum which will permit viewing by the public while that work it is in progress.

Outside the museum building there will be several aircraft on display including a Lancaster, an Argus, a Neptune, a Canso and hopefully a Hudson.  This setting will be very appropriate for our statue of the WWII RCAF Aircrew member.  He will be surrounded by aircraft and equipment that he was associated with during that war.

To complete our project we will require approximately $70,000.  We are hopeful that this amount of money will be acquired by generous donations from the many aviation minded people who will become aware of this very important project.  To that end, we will be contacting many military organizations, aviation-related corporations and the producers of military aviation magazines and periodicals to assist us in completing our mission.  All donations, be they of small or large amounts, will assist us in our mission of erecting a Memorial statue.  Money received in excess of our target will be used to fund an annual scholarship in aviation related studies.  Income tax receipts will be issued.

We hope that many of you who are made aware of this important project will be able to provide some financial assistance.  Donations and inquiries should be directed to:
