Argus 20727 Memorial Project


On the night of 23rd March 1965, while deployed on exercise to Puerto Rico, 404 Maritime Patrol and Training Squadron Argus 20727 plunged into the ocean 60 miles north of the island.  The entire crew and a government scientist perished in the crash.  Those lost on board Argus 20727 were:

 On 12 Sept 2008, 404 Maritime Patrol and Training Squadron, located at 14 Wing Greenwood in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley, will be commemorating the loss of Argus 20727 and her crew by hosting a ceremony to unveil a memorial stone.  The stone will join others along the Memorial Walkway between the VPI building and the Observation Tower, next to the Greenwood Military Aviation Museum, and offer a quiet place to contemplate the price paid by so many in the name of freedom.

 404 Maritime Patrol and Training Squadron would like include as many past Squadron members, family members, and friends as possible in this event and ask that anyone interested in joining us, or who might have contact information for someone who might be interested in joining us, please contact the Argus 20727 Memorial event coordinator Captain Stephanie Hale at (902) 765-1494 (ext 3685) or email Hale.SG2@forces.gc.ca or the deputy coordinator WO Glen Priddle at (902) 765-1494 (ext 3603) or email Priddle.GE@forces.gc.ca .

 The Greenwood Military Aviation Museum (GMAM) launched a fundraising campaign to finance the purchase of the memorial stone in 2007.  Individuals wishing to contribute to this memorial may do so by sending a cheque to the Museum as follows:

Cheques can be made out to the “Greenwood Military Aviation Museum” and annotated “727 Memorial”.  Donations are tax deductible and receipts will be issued.          


On Nov 29th ,  2007, Mr. Dave Geddes, President of Branch 98 of the Royal Canadian Legion, accompanied by Mr. Art Leduc, the Branch Treasurer, presented a cheque in the amount of $750 to the GMAM in support of the Argus 20727 memorial project.
