413 Transport & Rescue Squadron

History: 413 Squadron formed at Stranraer, Scotland, on 1 July 1941 as a General Reconnaissance Squadron. Moving to Ceylon in March, 1942, the squadron spent the rest of the war in Africa and the Indian Ocean. They returned to Britain on 20 February, 1945, and were disbanded three days later. On 1 April 1947, the squadron was reformed at RCAF Station Rockliffe, absorbing No.13 Photographic Squadron. Renamed 413 Survey and Transport Squadron on 1 April 1949, they served until they were disbanded on 1 November 1950. Reformed on 1 August 1951 as an All-Weather Fighter Squadron at RCAF Station Bagotville, 413 was renamed in November as a Fighter Squadron and, on 7 march 1953, they moved to 3 Wing Zweibrucken, Germany, where they stayed until they were disbanded on 7 April 1957. They were reactivated at Bagotville on 1 May 1957 and then deactivated there on 30 December 1961. The squadron reformed at RCAF Station Summerside on 8 July 1968 as 413 Rescue Squadron, absorbing elements of 103 Rescue Unit. The squadron moved to CFB Greenwood on 10 June 1991, where they currently reside.
